EXTRON NETPA AMPS WITH DANTE

By

27 January 2015

Extron Electronics has introduced its NetPA 502 AT and NetPA 1001-70V AT half rack sized convection cooled power amplifiers equipped with Dante digital audio networking.

NetPA

The NetPA 5502 AT delivers two channels of 50W into 4 ohms, and the NetPA 1001-70V AT provides a single channel of 100W at 70 volts. The amplifiers can receive audio from Dante-equipped audio processors over a standard local area network, greatly simplifying the cabling infrastructure for sharing audio across multiple rooms or floors in a building.

Additional features include line level outputs that can simultaneously feed an additional speaker zone or audio system, and an Extron exclusive advanced Class D amplifier design, plus patented Class D Ripple Suppression (CDRS) that provides improved signal fidelity over conventional Class D models.

“The NetPA amplifiers combine the highly-efficient core amplifier technologies found in the renowned XTRA Series amplifiers, with the flexibility and scalability of Dante audio networking in a compact enclosure,” says sales and marketing vice president Casey Hall. “They receive audio channels from one or more digital signal processors on the Dante network, allowing for audio from a paging system or music to be shared throughout a building using standard Internet protocols.”

The professional grade models offer greater than 90dB signal-to-noise ratio and less than 0.1 per cent THD+N. Recessed, detented level controls are located on the rear panel to adjust gain or set individual zone levels. They also have an ultra low inrush current draw to prevent power circuit overload that can occur when multiple amplifiers are switched on simultaneously. This eliminates the need for power sequencing in systems with multiple amplifiers in centralised equipment racks, and prevents other equipment from experiencing power interruption from associated power surges.

A network of Extron Dante-enabled products, including the NetPA amplifiers, can be set up using Dante Controller software as well as DSP Configurator software. Dante Controller is used to easily assign an output from a Dante-equipped digital signal processor such as the Extron DMP 128 AT, to an input on a NetPA amplifier. Dante-equipped products are AVB (Audio Video Bridging) ready.
